Gynoïdes Project invited by the Department of Architecture of Chalmers University of Technology at the AHA Festival Art and Science on November 2nd 2015.

The AHA Festival at the Department of Architecture Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg

Presents

Gynoïdes Project

Experimental Circus

Bêta Test IX part 2

November 2nd 2015

In Bêta Test IX part 2, the objective is to explore new forms of artistic expression in circus art through the use of motion capture technology, enabling performers to interactively control computer-generated sounds by mean of their own body.  By using real time sonic interaction we explore more complex multimodal relationship between music and circus performance; the enactive experience of the artist whose proprioception is enhanced by continuous embodied sonic feedback, can be perceive by the audience who can “hear” the artistic motion and “see” the sound (Taylor, Polotti and Goina 2012). The project investigate ways in witch the body may regain information about itself, a self-hacking of the body, retrieving elemental data about its functions.  Used in this manner, interactive sonification, and related artistic practices, is tool to overcome the standardized traditional format of circus, re-invent choreographic methods and approaches to the art form (Elblaus et al 2014).  Nov 2nd 12.00 at

Supported by: Stockholm University of the Arts,  School of dance and circus (DOCH), Kulturbryggan, Musikverket, The City of Stockholm, Swedish Art Grant Committee, Swedish Art Council, Canadian Council for the Art, Royal Institute of Technologies (KTH), Chalmers University of Technology.

AHA Festival Art and Science The AHA festival investigates the borders between art and science in a three-day event at the Chalmers University of Technology hosted by the Department of Architecture. An international festival intended to provide enlightening experiences, staging surprises, new thoughts and displaced perspectives that lead to alternative modes of thinking about the space between art and science. We invite scientists (physicists, historians, mathematicians, medical students), artists (dancers, musicians, painters, poets, chefs) and not least architects, who reside in these borderlands and wish to share their vision and work. The key intention is to celebrate both art and science as key knowledge building devices. November 2nd to 5th 2015  www.ahafestival.se

Latest Update

Posted 7/7/2015

Hello back  to you  loyal readers!

Welcome to you newcomers and  thanks for your interest in Gynoïdes Project!

This blog has been going dark for the last months, the explanation is simple:  the last 7 months has been Hyper busy for Gynoïdes Project.

It has been very inspiring to meet and exchange with a massive amount of women in circus, to discuss and debates on gender in performing arts, and to get down in the studio playing with concepts of re-presentation and bring the composition essay of Bêta Test to an audience.

In the last 7 months, when not in writing sessions for raising the appropriate fundings for this project to continue to exist,  and when not  in preparation  or  in researches and creation sessions, then I was busy trying to assemble all the informations and or to respond to all opportunities  that the project has generated.

It has been a  perpetual flow of actions keeping me to distance with this blog.  It has indeed been a challenge to  keep up with all the opportunities that the consortium and the Bêta Test has generated.  I have  tried to part in as many  lectures, presentation and interviews  and accepted as many invitations as possible  but at the end I  had to decline few and postpone some.

After all, my main occupation is my work as  head of the bachelor of art in circus at the school of Dance and Circus in Stockholm.  In the last 7 months we have reformed the entire programme syllabus and course plans, we have produce the ensemble work of the second year students ( an awesome collaboration with innovative juggler Jay Gilligan) and we have proceed with the audition of an entire new class of students.  In september 2015, there will be around 40 students in the BA programme! My works with the students and with my team of teachers is an inspiration for my research and my artistic practice and in return my research and artistic practice feed my pedagogical input to the program.  A win win that keeps me really, really busy and well stimulated!

Here are the main Gynoïdes Project's activities since last november 2014:

During this time, the many hours dedicated to grants applications has paid off. We have obtained the minimal necessary fundings to move on with the creation of the first full length performance of Gynoïdes Project, thanks to kulturbryggan and Musikverket!

The pre-prod of Gynoïdes the Show has officially started, the main Swedish partners are on board and  the castingis now completed.  The creation will take place in November and December 2015 at Riksteatern and the show is to be  presented by Orionteatern, Stockhom's avant -garde theatre, for 12 representations from january 6th to january 23rd 2016!

Now its time for a well deserve vacation.  I'll make sure to use  some of the free time to feed this blog.

Read more details about these past and upcoming events in the posts to come.

Happy summer to everyone!
